Raised in Saudi Arabia, Rakan has been passionate about film from a very young age. He aims to capture the stories of joy and hardship in our lives through a lens inspired by the coast of Jeddah. In high school he began learning the craft, later expanding his vision while studying in Montreal. Besides his work as video editor at UTURN, he’s created other commercial content including providing coverage for Dima Jewellery during a private opening at the Grand Egyptian Museum—experiences that shaped his storytelling. Now back home, he continues to create films of tragedy and triumph. As Kalatozov’s The Cranes Are Flying reminds us:
